Derby Firefighters In State Hall
Photo of Father Berberich and Ed Cotter Jr in 2009 at a celebration of father Berberich's 50th anniversary as a Catholic priest. Photo & story courtesy of Thomas Lenart Two Derby firefighters were added to the 2nd class of inductees in CT State Firefighter's Hall of Fame, 14 in all are to be inducted. One of the two, Ed Cotter who has for many years been involved with firefighting, emergency medical services, and rescue training in Derby, New Haven and all over Connecticut for over 50 years. As well as being one of the valley's most active volunteers for most of his life, Eddie had a very unique ability to motivate volunteers and recognize valuable technology then deliver it to his firefighters enhancing their ability to serve the public. The other derby firefighter Father Thomas Berberich was pastor at St Mary's Church in Derby for many years and actively volunteered as a member of Storm Engine Company & the Storm Ambulance Corps. Listening to Eddie Cotter and Father Berberich talk about the ambulance calls and fire calls they went on together is a rich part of firefighter's history and an example of compassion and service any community should be proud of.
